Body Sock

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

A body sock is used for sensory integration. A body sock provides deep pressure input and can help calm and organize a child. I use body socks with my students in the school along with my own kids. It is made from a soft spandex material so it stretches. The child actually goes inside and covers themselves up in the body sock. They create their own space. It is very effective in helping a child feel relaxed and escape for a little bit. Check out sensory catalogs for other cool sensory stuff.

Soccer

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

I am writing this blog from my kids’ soccer game. Anthony and Jasmine joined a summer soccer league. I was nervous at first, wondering if it was the right move. This is a regular ed soccer league. But Anthony wanted to give it a try. And so far, it’s going pretty good. He needs to be reminded about the rules of the game. And the “social rules” that go along with being on a team. He is so desperate for some friends. It’s so hard to explain to him why other kids don’t understand. We are hoping that playing soccer will give him more social opportunities to be successful with. Anthony is a hard worker and seems to be enjoying himself on the playing field. I guess I have officially turned into a soccer mom.
