Bronx Zoo

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

We always like to start our summer with a day trip. It’s a nice way to celebrate all of our accomplishments throughout the school year. This time we went to the Bronx Zoo. The kids love all kinds of animals and Rob and I haven’t been there since we were kids. We stayed in a hotel the night before (the kids love swimming in the pool). They were very excited and didn’t get much sleep. But in the morning, they were awake and ready to go. We were all praying for the clouds to clear and the sun to come out during the entire drive down there. Our prayers must of worked, it turned out to be a beautiful day. We got to visit with all the usual animals such as lions, monkeys, giraffes, camels, ocean animals, etc. We did a lot of walking. We ate a picnic lunch in the pavilion area. All of the kids were well behaved and earned a trip to the gift shop for a souvenir. It was childhood memory that they will last forever.

Family Portrait

We thought a nice family portrait would be nice to celebrate the unity of the family since the adoption was final. It might seem easy but getting our family portrait done was a little challenging. We made sure that everyone was well fed and rested that morning. As we were driving to the mall, I tried to keep everyone in a good mood. I also reminded them that we were going to the Chuckie Cheeses restaurant after wards. (Not as a bribe but it’s just happen to be on our schedule for that night) Once we got there, we had to wait for about 30 minutes. I guess having an appointment was worthless. Anthony, having tactile defensiveness, hated being manhandled by the photographer to get into the right position. He refused to smile and was just not happy about being there. But he eventually smiled enough for the picture. Destiny was so distracted by everything else in the room; it was hard to get her to look in the camera. Jasmine was perfect (as usual). She is so photogenic. I kept saying “Jas just keep smiling”. My Derrick thought it was cool to make funny faces and then see himself like that on the computer screen. Well after 30 takes, we finally got a decent picture where everyone was smiling and looked nice. It was well worth all of the struggles throughout the day.  family portrait
